In the CBSE, we balance equations for one mark, and no half marks exist—either it's right or wrong. But in our tuition for entrance exams, sir deducts only half if the coefficients are wrong but method is shown, calling it "step-marking." My own life says the half mark hides in that careful working, because my notebook from last term shows a half-mark saved me, and I never forgot to write the steps again.
