ISI is the dream for maths purists, CMI for those who want CS too – coaching wallahs keep repeating this. But the real difference is ISI has a name even my mother knows, so she can tell the relatives. My life says the entrance difficulty is overhyped; the first year is where you truly drown if you only solved problems and never understood a proof. I saw this when Didi, our topper, came back from Kolkata after first term, crying over her real analysis notebooks.
