It's a beautiful dance, really. The Rhizobium bacteria in the roots use nitrogenase to break that tough triple bond in atmospheric nitrogen, and the leghaemoglobin keeps the oxygen out so the enzyme doesn't choke. But on my farm, I see it as the free fertiliser my chole and masoor provide for the next crop of wheat. The science is in the books, but the proof is in the yield I don't have to pay for.
