It seems a magical property, but our maths teacher showed us how the angle at the centre is twice the angle at the circumference, making opposite angles supplementary. But I must admit, the only cyclic quadrilateral that feels truly reliable to me is our old stone well in the orchard. The angles of its mouth have held steady for generations, while the harvest—and my fees—remain worryingly acute and obtuse by turns.
