Just look for the chromosomes lining up in the middle in metaphase, like soldiers in a row. In anaphase, they’re being pulled apart to opposite ends. Our textbook diagram is so smudged, but I remember it because I sketched it in my notebook with my *rukhein* holding the pages flat. The fancy diagrams in city coaching books have colour, but our single black-and-white one teaches you to look harder.
