Lazo is a rope that ties the couple together, arras are coins for prosperity, and padrinos are sponsors who pay for parts of the wedding. Frankly, it feels like a show of wealth that puts too much pressure on families. My own father is still paying off loans from my sister's wedding, so I see how these old customs can bury a family in debt.
