Les Demoiselles d'Avignon? It sounds like a French sweet shop, but they say it's a painting of ladies, with faces like those tribal masks from Africa. He kept it rolled up, perhaps even he wasn't sure if people would understand it. Frankly, when I try to make a simple owl with *shola* paper and clay, the committee says the eyes are "too traditional". If I gave them a mask-like face, they'd think the kiln heat had touched my head! My joy is in making things that feel familiar, not in keeping them hidden away.
