MIT looks for how you’ve used what was around you, not just which board’s marksheet you have. They know a 95% in one state board might mean more struggle than a 99% in CBSE, so they read your context. The JEE rank isn’t part of it because they have their own puzzles and questions to see how you think.
I say this because in my Delhi school, the CBSE toppers were brilliant, but my cousin in a Tamil state board had to teach herself calculus from a library book. If MIT only saw ranks, they’d never see that fight.
