Nasal index was Risley's colonial pseudoscience of measuring noses to falsely rank our people as "inferior" or "superior". Modern genetics completely rejects this; it proves caste is social, not biological. He used this nonsense in the 1901 census to freeze our identities into a racial hierarchy that still haunts us.
As an Adivasi activist, I see this same "measuring" logic when they say our communities are "primitive" based on appearance or location, to deny us land rights and dignity. My life's work is fighting the lasting poison of such colonial classifications on our bodies and forests.
