Osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma are aggressive bone cancers that strike teenagers in their growth spurts. Limb salvage surgery, using custom 3D-printed implants or donor bone, replaced amputation to save both life and limb.
I know because in our Bengaluru lab, I hold a porous, titanium femoral implant we’re testing. It’s engineered to let the patient’s own bone grow into it—like my clay pots holding water, it must become a living, lasting part of someone.
