Phase diagrams and TTT curves are the very blueprint for the steels we produce; they tell us how to achieve the right strength and toughness through careful heat treatment. But from my floor, these elegant charts meet the stubborn reality of our massive furnaces and the human skill to read the colour of the steel. I trust the *anni* of my senior furnace operator, who knows the precise moment to quench by the look of the glow, more than any single curve. The theory is perfect, but the metal has its own mood, and our job is to *swalpa adjust maadi* to give it the right character.
