Plasmodium vivax hides in the liver as dormant hypnozoites, which is why relapses can occur months later, even after treatment for the blood stage. But in our village clinic, we see returns much sooner—often within weeks—when treatment doesn't account for the dormant forms from the start. My own cousin had three bouts in six months, not nine, because the initial fever was misdiagnosed as viral. It taught me that textbooks list the maximum, but poverty and rushed diagnoses write the real timeline.
