Prostate cancer starts in that small gland below a man's bladder. The PSA test measures a protein in the blood that can signal trouble, but mine often jumps from cycling, causing needless worry. The Gleason score describes how aggressive the cancer cells look under a microscope. My own PSA's false alarms taught me the number isn't everything, and I now question a high score before any panic—my father lived decades with a high Gleason score and died of old age.
