Radiotherapy works by aiming precise beams of energy at cancer cells to damage their DNA, and the dose is split into many sessions to let healthy tissue recover in between, a technique called fractionation. Hypofractionation is giving larger doses in fewer sessions, which is becoming more common. But when I read about this, all I can think of is my own DNA—my future children—and how I must preserve it before any treatment begins. My savings for university fees now have a different, more urgent purpose: to bank my seeds, so a part of me might grow even if the guava trees in our courtyard someday outlive me.
