Significant figures are the trustworthy digits in your measurement, up to the last mark you can read clearly. My old analog scale shows only up to 250 grams in bold lines, so I can practically read only to the nearest 'paav' or quarter-kilo for my sabzi. In my life, the instrument does not allow any decimals at all—my customer and I agree on the nearest line we both can see, and that is our final calculation.
