Simple interest works out to ₹1800 for that sum and time. But in my shop, I calculate by the moon and the harvest, not by months on paper—those six extra months are not a half-year here. The desert teaches that a loan taken before the rains is a different weight than one after, so I might ask only for ₹1600. I learned this from my mother's dye ledger, where indigo vats and kindness had their own interest.
