The Act rightly allows farmers to save, use, and exchange their farm-saved seeds, but the registration process for a new variety is costly and complex for a small grower—it feels designed for companies, not for our coconut grove. I see its value when our cooperative advises a farmer with a unique local brinjal, but my evening students remind me true protection is in sharing knowledge freely, not just in a registration certificate.
