The BDS course is five years including one-year compulsory rotatory internship, with pre-clinical subjects in the first two years and clinical training starting from the third year. But from my metro private college, the real detail is the 'compulsory' internship often becomes an unpaid extension of college service, fetching patients for senior doctors instead of proper practice. My own internship was spent mostly sterilising instruments in a clinic owned by my professor's relative—a far cry from the independent clinical exposure they advertise. It funds their operations, not our learning.
