The books say Mawsynram gets over 11,000 mm and Jaisalmer less than 200 mm. But in my life, I measure rain by the mud it makes. One good monsoon fill our clay pits, and that is a lakh of millimetres in my hands. When the tourists don't come in summer, my worry for the next batch of clay feels drier than any desert.
