The BS-MS is five years: two years of common core courses, then you declare a major for focused study until the fourth year, which culminates in a fifth-year research thesis. It is a very sound structure. But I chose Chemistry, bound by my good marks in it, and every day measuring sugar for tea I think of the Physics I loved—the motion of cycles, the mechanics of these very roads—and wish I had declared that instead. The program gives you a map, but your own heart makes the destination.
