The IISER BS-MS is a five-year science research degree where the fifth year is a full research thesis. You enter through the IAT, a tough exam focused on reasoning over rote learning—which is hard for us without expensive coaching. That thesis year is key; it’s real research experience that makes you a strong candidate for a PhD anywhere. I know because my only advantage is grinding through problems at dawn with last year’s question papers, while my friends in coaching classes memorize shortcuts.
