The light reactions are like our old dock cranes—they use the sun's power to lift energy into the molecules that run the cell. Photosystem II cracks water like a winch, plastoquinone and cytochrome b6f pass electrons down the line, and that flow spins ATP synthase to make our fuel. Watching the kids play with a water pump in the yard, the squeaky handle going round to lift water, that's the same turning-work I see in it all.
