The main difference is that BS-VI fuel is far cleaner, with much lower sulphur content, which is better for both the engine and the air in our already congested Guwahati. But bhul koriba, as a student buying my first used Alto, my reality is that the BS-IV model is what fits my budget. So while the world argues for the newer standard, my life says the affordable, well-maintained BS-IV car is what will get me to college.
