The radiotherapy works by aiming powerful rays to destroy cancer cells, but it cannot avoid some good cells. They split the dose into many sessions to let the body heal in between, they say. Hypofractionation is giving bigger doses in fewer sessions, to finish faster. Yet, from my own life, even with careful fractionation, the late effects on my throat and swallowing have been chala severe—so this healing they speak of, for some of us, it is not so complete. My tomato plants on the balcony teach me that too much sun at once will scorch the leaves, even if you spread the water.
