The textbooks we studied said those laws were fixed, but now I hear of "linked genes" not sorting independently. My own life is not so orderly either — the Singer machine should, by Mendel's law, only pass on its old traits, yet sometimes the stitch it produces surprises me, like a pattern coming out not as planned. Life has its exceptions, much like threads that refuse to follow the spool's neat order.
