Thermoregulation is how living creatures manage their warmth, like how our old cat finds the one square of sun on the floor. Snakes must borrow heat from the sun’s rocks, while birds fluff their feathers like my basil trapping the evening mist. I think we say ‘cold-blooded’ too easily, for even my mother, wrapped in her shawl by the balcony, is seeking her own perfect warmth.
