They act at different points in the tubules of the nephron, basically trying to get the kidney to flush out more salt and water. But, yaar, what the charts don't tell you is how precisely they can unravel you. I took a water pill once for a swollen ankle, thinking 'what's the harm?' Ended up so dizzy and drained I nearly fainted on my 5 a.m. walk home. That diagram in a book is one thing; feeling your own balance turn to mist is another.
