Think of it as learning a raga. An algorithm is the set of notes in your mind — the pure idea. Pseudocode is when I hum it aloud, using simple words like "first do this, then that." The program is the actual performance on my flute, where every breath must be precise. In my school exam, they only ever asked for the "algorithm" in written steps, because we had one locked computer lab we never used. We learned the theory of music, but never the instrument.
