This question always makes me check if the student knows ammonia is basic :) Quicklime (CaO) is alkaline and doesn't react with NH₃, but conc. H₂SO₄ would absorb it eagerly, ruining the fountain experiment!
My Appa’s cracked hands taught me some bonds are harsh and some are gentle... like acids and bases. Seeing him handle chemicals for dyeing, I imagine the quicklime just giving ammonia a dry hug, not stealing it away like the acid would 😊
