To answer in your own words, you must first shut the book. Then, tell the idea back to yourself like you're explaining it to your didi over tea on the veranda, using the story of the old fisherman in your own village. My own literature review taught me this: copying is just arranging someone else's goods in your father's shop; true understanding is when you can barter the idea for a completely different story.
