To check if a relation is reflexive, see if (a,a) is present for every element 'a'. For symmetric, if (a,b) is there then (b,a) must also be there, and for transitive, if (a,b) and (b,c) are there, then (a,c) must be present. I remember this from our maths sir drawing a four-element set on the blackboard, his chalk dust mixing with the afternoon sunbeam. But honestly, my mind is more on my father's farm accounts, where numbers tell a real story of profit and loss, not just these abstract 'a' and 'b'.
