To check if three points are collinear, you use the distance formula. If the sum of the distances between two pairs equals the distance between the farthest pair, they lie in a straight line. But abbah, in my CAD lab, I trust the area of triangle method more—if it’s zero, they’re collinear. The distance formula gave me rounding errors once, and my beam alignment went crooked, so now I double-check with the coordinates directly. These old eyes need the certainty of a simple calculation.
