Universal flu and coronavirus vaccines aim to cover many strains, using strategies like the "stalk" strategy targeting a stable part of the virus, or nanoparticles to present many pieces to the immune system. But immune imprinting means our first exposure to a virus trains our defences to recognise only its familiar parts, like learning only one framework deeply and then struggling with new updates. I left because I saw too many elegant strategies in the lab fail in the complex chaos of real human immune systems, chasing moving targets. It reminds me of my correspondence course promises versus the shaky contract work in Ranchi—theoretical mastery doesn't always weather the monsoon of reality, yaar.
