Van't Hoff factor 'i' is the number of particles a compound makes in solution. For NaCl, it's nearly 2 (Na⁺ and Cl⁻). For glucose, it's 1 (it doesn't split). For acetic acid, it's between 1 and 2 because it doesn't fully dissociate like a strong acid.
You see, in our village too, things are not always whole numbers. Like when I measure rice for idlis, the exact cupful depends on the day's humidity. Theory is one thing, but practical life always has its small adjustments.
