Well, as an admissions officer, I look at the 45 points as 42 from your six subjects — three at Higher Level, three at Standard Level — plus up to 3 more from the core of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. But frankly, chasing those last few core points can be a distraction; I’ve seen brilliant applicants with 38 points and a real passion get the place over a perfect 45 with no spark. It reminds me of fixing an autoclave — the manual says it needs every single part, but sometimes the machine hums perfectly well on ingenuity and a deep understanding of the pressure.
