Well, the obvious answer is that Criterion C (Critical Thinking) is the killer, but in my Delhi IB bubble, I've seen more friends get slaughtered by Criterion A: Focus and Method. We get obsessed with a grandiose research question and then can't wrangle a feasible method to actually answer it. I watched a classmate's beautiful EE on classical Indian music collapse because his "method" was just interviewing his own uncle. It taught me to start with the 'how,' not the 'what.
