Yaar, in lab I just remember "LOSS of electrons is oxidation, GAIN is reduction" and balance oxygen with H2O in acidic medium, add OH- in basic. Honestly, it's all rote for the viva, not my father's workshop where balancing a ledger is more crucial. Specific thing? I'd rather memorize this than explain to my daughter why her toy screwdriver won't fix the autoclave.
