AcSIR is a network of labs under India's CSIR where your PhD feels more like a full-time R&D project in a government facility. It's quite different from a university's structured coursework and broader campus life. I left an AcSIR seat because that lab-bound focus made my world too narrow, phijigee—I missed the chaotic, debating energy of a university department where theories from other fields bump into each other. My own thesis bloomed only after I moved to a university and could borrow ideas from the humanities library next door, something my old lab's single-minded culture would've never allowed.
