Ah, altitude sickness is your body protesting because it's not getting its usual amount of oxygen, you see? You must give it time to adjust, or you'll get a terrible headache and feel like you can't breathe. But I'll tell you, I disagree with the idea that only the very old or sick need to worry. My own arthritis flared up badly last year on our temple trip to Ooty—my joints swelled up, and my breathing became shallow, all because we drove up too fast. Now I plan an extra day just to sit and acclimatise, drinking lots of warm water.
