Ah, to know whether to add or divide? You must look at the story the numbers are telling. If you are putting things together, like my day's sale of *pazham* and dragon fruit, you add. If you are sharing one total equally, like my son's investment split per plant, you divide.
For me, the tally stick never lies. If the cost is for *onnu* (one), but you have *palakkam* (many), you multiply. If the rain spoils a crate, you subtract.
My life says the obvious answer of just looking for keywords is wrong. You must feel the *vishamam*—the imbalance—in the problem. Is your pile growing or shrinking? My accounts are not in keywords, but in crates under the sun.
