As a researcher, I must say the obvious answer is about transduced cells dying over time, *avunu*. But, my reality is that true permanence means treating the patient before birth, not after—something my work can't yet offer safely. Every time I hear my scooter's engine sputter, a sound I know will fade, I'm reminded that fixing something after it's built is different from building it right from the start. We are still trying to reach that quiet, humming perfection.
