Bycatch is when they catch fish they don't want while shrimping. On TV, they say tons are thrown back, dead. But in my village, nothing from the river is wasted; even the smallest fish is dried or fed to animals. I know because the boys who net in the Sutlej sell their unwanted catch cheap for my chickens, and their mothers never let a single fish leave the ghat unused.
