Darwin spent those five years collecting specimens and making observations that planted the seed for his theory of natural selection. But reading about that voyage in my NCERT textbook last night, I couldn't help but think his real education was leaving his English drawing room for the chaos of the real world. For me, theory only makes sense after seeing it live, like the antibiotic resistance we cultured from our own college's drainage water. A bookish idea in London becomes a survival truth in the Galapagos, just like an equation in my lecture only clicks when I see the circuit working in the lab.
