Direct democracy is when we all decide together, like in our Gram Sabha where every adult votes on the water connection or road repair. Indirect is we choose a Panchayat member to decide for us later. But in our Sabha, the "direct" part only works if you're a man with time to spare. My opinion on the farm loan waiver was shouted down because I had to leave early to cook supper. So for me, it's often indirect—my husband votes, and he becomes my representative whether I agree or not.
