Eutrophication, beta, is when the water grows too many plants and algae, starving the river of breath, and BOD measures that struggle. The Ganga Action Plan built many treatment plants to give the river its breath back. But from these ghats, I see that the real purification comes from changing hearts, not just plumbing, for the river accepts our flowers but not our plastics and soap. Every morning when I bathe, I use only a copper lota and a simple cotton cloth, for my father taught me that devotion is in keeping the offering clean.
