In therapy, transference is when I start seeing my therapist like my strict but loving Papa-ji, and countertransference is when she might, without realizing, start advising me like a concerned auntie. It’s useful, but the obvious answer is that it’s always analyzed deeply—my city therapist actually keeps it simple, just noting when my voice changes talking about authority. We spend more time on my real tension: my solar lease money means I could afford therapy, but it also makes me miss our actual fields.
