Pteridophytes are non-flowering vascular plants, like our ferns here in the shade of the coconut grove. They reproduce through spores, not seeds, which you can find in little clusters under their leaves. But in my life, they reproduce through stubbornness, like this old fern cracking the laterite stone by our well, sending out its rhizomes year after year, same as me with these books. The book says the prothallus is separate; I say it’s all one tired plant trying again from the beginning.
