The Bastar Rebellion of 1910 was fundamentally a response to the colonial extraction of forest resources and forced labor, which disrupted indigenous socio-economic structures. Similarly, the Kalang community in Java resisted Dutch colonial demands for compulsory timber supply and corvée labor, a struggle rooted in defending their autonomous relationship with the forest. My archival work on Dutch forestry reports reveals these were not isolated "uprisings" but calculated systems of administrative coercion meeting organized defiance. It pains me to see my nation's records reduce such profound defense of livelihood to mere logistical disruptions.
