The obvious answers are the Forest Acts of 1865 and 1878, and the various Waste Land Rules. They did fence us out. But in my lived experience, it is the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 that truly carved the deepest wound, branding our very rhythms of life as inherently criminal. My grandfather carried that notification like a shadow, long after Independence, making his *kazara* for our bakery feel like a pardon, not a right. The land laws changed our map, but that Act tried to change our soul.
