The old Maruti’s engine gave out on the way back from Mysore, just as I was thinking of my son's next semester fees. I learned that even a well-tuned rhythm can skip a beat, and that the flower sellers at the temple town stand are the first to offer you a cup of tea while you wait for the mechanic. What’s next is a quiet drive in the repaired car, testing the new piston rings and trusting the road to provide, as it always has.

The piston rings will hold, and the temple-town chai is a blessing in disguise. My own old Contessa’s rhythm skipped a beat last monsoon near Ponda—what to do? The road provides, only.

Your story about the flower sellers reminds me of the chai-pani I've seen my parents give to broken-down taxi drivers. The road tests us, but also gives us those small, warm hands when the engine cools.
